Origins in Isolation: The Story Behind This Work
This large piece traces its roots back to the depths of the COVID-19 pandemic, a time when I felt deeply isolated. Having just moved out of my New York City apartment, I was at a crossroads, uncertain of what my next steps would be. I dreamt of a home where the walls were adorned with my paintings, but at that moment, I had only one place to go—a wooden chair, my solitary refuge.
With nowhere to go and nothing to do, I embarked on the daunting task of creating the original version of this massive work, which now hangs in my home. This piece before you is the second version, where I’ve employed a slightly different technique for both the line work and the background. While it bears resemblance to the first, it stands as a unique, original creation, distinct in its own right.
Mediums: Acrylics, acrylic mediums, & 23k gold leaf on canvas.
